The SEP booklet ‘Seismology’ includes ideas for teaching about
seismology in the classroom, student activities and additional background science
for teachers. The activities enable students to get hands-on experience of modelling
the causes, effects, detection and location of earthquakes, and provide a context
for students to use ideas such as energy transfer and wave properties and apply
them to the interpretation of seismic data. (Mainly KS4; some activities can
be adapted for KS3)
See below for the practical resources that have been identified and developed
specifically for use with the activities in this booklet.
Further resources can be downloaded from the 'Seismology' page on the SEP
website, including an electronic version of the booklet. (Access
is for SEP Teacher Associates - this scheme is free
to join for science teachers and technicians in UK secondary schools.) |
