The SEP booklet ‘Solar Power: Electricity from the Sun’ looks at
how solar cells work, the factors that affect their output, and how solar power
could be used to provide electricity for the home. Students can carry out quantitative
work on solar panels, investigating power output and efficiency, and there are
spreadsheet models that enable students to look at solar radiation and the economics
of solar power. (Mainly KS4; some activities can be adapted for KS3)
See below for the practical resources that have been identified and developed
specifically for use with the activities in this booklet.
Further resources can be downloaded from the 'Solar Power' page on the SEP
website, including an electronic version of the booklet. (Access
is for SEP Teacher Associates - this scheme is free
to join for science teachers and technicians in UK secondary schools.) |
