The SEP booklet ‘Metals and Smart Alloys’ contains two sections of
student activities. The first section is concerned with ‘conventional’
alloys, in particular, looking at iron and steel, and at elastic and plastic deformation.
The second section looks at the new generation of ‘smart alloys’ or
‘shape memory alloys’, and at how they are now being used in a variety
of applications. (Mainly KS4; some activities can be adapted for KS3)
See below for the practical resources that have been identified and developed
specifically for use with the activities in this booklet.
Further resources can be downloaded from the 'Metals and Smart Alloys' page on the SEP
website, including an electronic version of the booklet. (Access
is for SEP Teacher Associates - this scheme is free
to join for science teachers and technicians in UK secondary schools.) |
